Yoga Therapy Sessions (private and group)*

Yoga Therapy is a holistic process that explores the physical, energetic, emotional/mental and spiritual (non-sectarian) needs and interests of the student.  It utilizes the many tools of yoga including breath, movement, & self discovery to promote wellness and healing on every level.

Some particulars regarding Yoga Therapy:
  • Yoga therapy is student centered, molding the teaching to the needs of the individual.
  • The yoga therapist serves as a guide in an individuals journey of healing and self discovery.
  • Yoga therapists do not diagnose or treat specific conditions. Instead we aim to create a program for optimal health based on the unique needs of the student or group.
  • While most allopathic systems of patient care focus on caring for the immediate symptoms, yoga therapy focus on the underlying imbalances that can lead to “dis-ease”.
  • Focus on overall well-being with equal emphasis on the physical, emotional and spiritual dimensions of being.
  • Health and healing in yoga therapy are “by-products” of the self-awareness/transformation that arises through yoga practice. Here health and healing are equivalent to a sense of personal wholeness.
  • Yoga therapy can but may not necessarily include yoga postures/movements. Given the needs of the student the yoga therapist will draw on a variety of yogic techniques including support with life style and diet, breathing practices, relaxation exercises, skills to develop self-observation/awareness, and meditation.
Who can best be served by yoga therapy?
  • Everyone can benefit from yoga therapy given they are working with a trained professional that is sensitive to their unique needs.
  • Folks trying to manage the challenges of being human including;  stress, depression, anxiety, trauma, poor self esteem, “dysfunctional” movement patterns, muscular/postural imbalances, poor proprioception, recovery from injury/illness, etc. will find benefit
  • Students are encouraged to research Yoga Therapists in order to find “the right fit.”
  • Yoga Therapists should have documented experience working with individuals and a minimum of 500 hours of “Yoga Therapy Training.”

Stress Management

Ellen offers stress management workshops and consultation for individuals and groups at the studio or for groups in the workplace. These range from one-hour, one-on-one meetings to day-long workshops. In her unique program called “Stress as a Path to Well-Being,” participants move toward embracing their stress as a means to deeper self awareness and self acceptance. In a joyful, supportive, interactive setting, they look at why certain life experiences evoke stress and how personal belief systems and stories impact the degree to which they internalize a situation. By observing the language of their bodies and implementing simple relaxation techniques, they will discover a path to bring peace to even the most stressful of moments.

Ellen has held stress management programs in mental health and hospital settings. She believes that heightened self awareness and self acceptance is the ultimate path toward inner peace and healing.

Spiritual Life Mentoring

Living in this world, steeped in duality (good and bad, joyful and sad, beautiful and revolting, abundant and scarce), can provoke you to question the way you live. Questioning is a normal and healthy part of personal growth at every stage of life. It inspires you to look at beliefs and conditioning as a means of breaking out of old patterns and finding new and inspired ways of being.

Using the many tools of Yoga, including self reflection, body awareness, and breath work, these sessions will support you in identifying places in your life where you welcome movement and change and also offer opportunities to re-work thinking patterns that can keep you stuck in behaviors and habits that no longer serve you.

The cost for this service is $100 for 1 session (1 hour) or $180 275 for 3 sessions (recommended).

“Ellen is an extraordinary yoga therapist. In our Spiritual Living session she helped me reconnect to what is meaningful and supportive in my life. Although the session was via skype, her empathy and understanding were ever present, and I came away with steps I can take to integrate my insights into my life.” — Julia Hough, Weehawken, New Jersey

Reiki Sessions Are Available by Appointment at OYC

Renee Demarco

Reiki is an energy medicine that stimulates the flow of energy in your body.  The practitioner’s hands are positioned to direct life force to an affected point, chakra center, or other area in need of healing. Our combined energy generates heat, stimulating nerve pathways and blood flow. This process is said to release, restore, and integrate energy in the subtle layers of the body, and raise the vibration in our energy field. Reiki promotes relaxation, creates a sense of well-being, and activates our natural healing ability.
Reiki is not a substitute for Western medicine but rather a complementary practice widely used in clinics, hospice, and hospitals.  The treatment encounter is conducted in a relaxed atmosphere, fully clothed, and usually lying down on a massage table.
                         Sessions    60 min – $55.00         4/60min  – $210.00
